Dr. Berwal received his M.Tech and Ph.D degrees from the department of Computer Science and Engineering, VNIT Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. He completed his B.Tech degree from the department of Computer Science and Engineering, Chaudhary Devi Lal Memorial Government Engineering College Panniwala Mota under Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Haryana, India. Presently, he is working as an Associate Professor at Faculty of Communication Engineering, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, MHOW, Indore, India under the Ministry of Defence, Govt of India. Before this assignment, Dr. Berwal spent about decade at National Institute of Technology (Institute of National Importance) under the Ministry of Education, Govt of India. Previously, he worked with NIT Kurukshetra about one year and spent about 8.5 years at NIT Uttarakhand as a faculty member where, he served as a coordinator of Campus Wide Networking from July 2016 to June 2019, as a Head of the department from March 2019 to February 2022 and as a Coordinator of Career Counselling and Placement from March 2022 to November 2022. He served as chairman, coordinator or special invitee in the various department and institute level committees including the DFB, DPGC, DUGC, Purchase and Library Committee, Senate, ACoFAR, etc. He has more than 10 years of experience in Government of India in teaching, training, administration and research.

Dr. Berwal completed a research project titled "Secret Sharing Scheme Based Technology for Multimedia Security over Cloud" with a financial support of Rs. 40 Lac sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India. He supervised 10 M. Tech. scholars and 02 PhD awarded, and 02 PhD submitted under his supervision. He authored 100+ technical research articles in reputed international conferences and journals, including IEEE and ACM Transactions with a citation of 1800+ and H-index 25. His research article was selected for the best student paper award in the IAPR endorsed international conference PReMI, ISI Kolkata, India, in December 2017. He received All India Rank-1 for Associate Professor (CS/IT) under Ministry of Defence recommended by UPSC in 2023. In October 2023, his name appeared in top 2% scientist in World 2023-list released by Stanford University USA. Dr. Berwal received the Best Faculty Award 2022 for his significant contributions in teaching, research and administration during the academic year 2021-22 at NIT Uttarakhand.

He is Fellow of IETE, Senior Member of ACM and IEEE USA, Life member of ISTE and IUIAPR, Member of IET. Dr. Berwal is serving as an Editor at IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems (SCI,IF:4.970), Editor at the IETE Journal of Research (SCI, IF: 2.333) since February 2021, Editor at IETE Journal of Education (UGC) since October 2022 and Senior Editor at the Artificial Intelligence Evolution since February 2022, Guest Editor at special session of 29th ICONIP’22 at IIT Indore, Guest Editor at special session of 4th ICDLAIR’22 at Italy, Publicity Chair at 9th UPCON’22 at IIIT Allahabad, Organizing Secretary at IEEE IC2E3'23 at NIT Uttarakhand, Guest Editor at special session of 42nd IEEE ICCE’24 at USA, Conference Chair at 5th ICDLAIR’23 at NIT Kurukshetra, Program Chair at 2nd IEEE IC2E3’24 at NIT Uttarakhand. His research interests include machine learning, deep learning, video processing, NLP, Multimedia analysis, Cyber Forensics, Cloud computing.
